Fixed the Trilby and Gave it Away

Here is my dear friend Pam. The trilby now fits her head. She is quite thrilled with it - and kept taking it off to show others the inside. : D

The hat is a gift, but the sweet woman bought the purse.

So, was the hat too large or too small? These days, every new hat I see is in one size only and they're always to large for me. I'd love to know how to make them fit.

Hi Ellie, the hat was too large. My friend has trouble finding hats that are large enough. I made this one for her, but it was too big. Since it was a sewn hat, took the grosgrain headband out, made it 1/2 inch shorter and eased the hat fabric to the smaller band when stitching it in place.

Oh Ellie, did not answer all of your comment. For sewn fabric hats, the headband can be removed, shortened and restitched.

Block felt hats are a different matter. Some people put a band of foam (like strip window insulation) that adheres to the headband and makes the inside diameter smaller.
