The snow is nearly all gone. The land is greening slowly. Spots around buildings and near the house seem to green faster than those in the wooded areas. That brings visitors to graze.
A small herd of about 5 or 6 deer seem to be bedding down in the front pastures. Early morning brings them out to nibble on green shoots in the yard.
Last year was hard on deer. Wolf population is increasing, so many fawns became wolf food. Only a few canny elders survived. We are surprised to see this many does. Suspect they have moved in from more densely people populated areas. Housing developments are coming closer all the time.
For now, am enjoying the deer. The yard is plain and simple, no fancy plantings. A deer friendly yard.
